I’m fascinated by virtual worlds and communities: existence outside the physical, projecting yourself, your mind, your existence into the digital realm, new possibilities, new ways of being, new fronters. The “issue” is making it a compelling business model…just like the Internet wasn’t built for commercial gain: not everything should be business return driven, and the issue then is how to achieve scale, penetration and uptake without it. If you build it will they come?

Part of my interest harkens back to the 1980s when I first read William Gibson‘s Neuromancer and slid sideways into his cyberspace world inhabited by Wintermute and Lupus Yonderboy.

Keen to build a new world? Apply for Linden Lab‘s Project Sansar creator preview.

From techcrunch: “…the team is now embarking on its most ambitious project yet, a wide-reaching virtual reality network called Project Sansar that is, in many ways, aiming to become a new layer of reality that gives individuals and businesses a space to experiment with VR environments for their first time.”
